The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) was created in 1960 at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Its purpose was to coordinate the student protest movement. Mr. Charles Cobb was born in 1943 in Washington, D.C. In the summer of 1962, he was a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) field secretary in Ruleville, Mississippi, where he and others became engaged in voter registration, in adult education, and in designing or adapting standardized methods to meet the requirements of teaching working poor and sharecroppers to read.
